# 9 : Google's street view violates privacy

Over millions of people are using website Google. People even usually say “Googling” which means that they surfer on the internet. There are many services on this website, such as finding direction, website, book, or weather. Street View is one of the services on website Google. We cannot deny that it is a very useful service. For example, we can preview the road condition that we want to go; also, we are able to understand and to learn the way of destination the direction is complicated to find. Sometimes, the address does not indicate what I want to find in the map. However, if we know this service, Street View, we can notice before.

On the other hand, there is a critical problem on Google’s street view, which is privacy. By using this, we can see anywhere we want; it does not matter it is even a private property, important military spot, or sensitive establishment, hospital, prison, or women’s shelter. According to Ella in Techno News, “A Swiss court has ruled that Google is breaching citizens’ right to privacy with its Street View service and should take greater steps to obscure people caught by its cameras.” According to Daniel, this service might be able to invade the possibility of “Potential tourists” to show the region on the internet. Other countries, France and Israel, are also afraid that the Street View provides information to terrorists.

Of course, Google’s Street view makes our lives more convenient and easy. However, I am questioning that “Do we have to use this service to just get temporary easiness?” “Aren’t we living without this?” I think Google Corporation has to consider about privacy problem on the service.

#8: Internet Safety with Children

On the internet safety, I found, there is a difference between South Korea and The United States. My country, South Korea, strongly filters and blocks the violated and sexual website to protect children. For some website, they have to type in their identification to access as adult. However, in America, there is no limitation to search or to access to these materials that I mentioned; which means everyone, including children, can easily find these materials. It was shocked for me, and I asked own-myself “Is this country just pursuing freedom without thinking about the effect to a child?”

Children learn better and faster than adults. Why? They do not have basic knowledge about what they are trying to learn. That means that they just get it purely without analyzing that this is right or wrong. By developing the internet, it is easier to get information. Therefore, children are easily searching on internet whatever they want. On the internet, children are going to believe and trust everything from sexual issue to political issue without filtering the information is right or wrong.

 By increasing the usage of the internet, the internet is becoming important thing in the future; so, we cannot prevent that children use the internet. Even, we sometimes have to teach them how to use it. The point that we need is that we have to start appropriate education and protection for our children. Recently, there are many programs to protect children from the illegal stuff. However, in my opinion, it is not enough to protect our children from them. We need a specific government action like my country doing.

I believe that children are the most important asset for our brilliant future. Although we get a little inconvenient due to the protection of children on internet, we have to dedicate our interruption on this.  

#7 : Visual Analysis

           

As my one of the topics, internet safety, this picture is able to be a good example. Basically, there are a baby and an adult. The adult is whispering to the baby that “Sometimes people lie…” “Even on the internet.” At the same time, to hear about it, the baby is really surprising about it. Also, there is an explanation about this situation as small letter.

Basically, in this situation, we can predict that a baby indicate a child or a person who is not fully educated about the internet or the society. Those people are considered as who easily believe and trust the information from the internet no matter whether it is true or not. In addition, an adult might be indicating who is able to do filtering whether the information can trust or not. The adult is telling the truth about internet to the baby, so we can see that the baby is surprising.

Next, about letter, they use exclamation mark to make sure indicating a baby is surprising. Also, to emphasize the letter, internet, red color and bigger letter is used. Because other letters, such as additional information, is not more important than “Internet” or “Sometimes people lie…,” they use small size for them.  

            Using a baby on the visual symbol is the best choice to announce about internet safety. Usually, we think that a baby is always protected from bad things. Because of this, it can be fully explaining to reader the message, internet safety.

#10: Is Password enough to protect your ID?

Today, we are able to use the internet everywhere with Free-Wi-Fi service or your cell phone by many devices, such as computer, PDA, or Ipad. In this way, internet users are increasing by time. However, the internet is not always fulfilling our lives. On the internet, there is a serious problem, which is ID theft. 

Most internet users, who have account on the internet, are thinking that their accounts are safe, but it is wrong. ID theft is occurred everywhere and anytime without their knowledge. The ways to theft ID is going to be professional and various. Even, sometimes, the companies, which protect from ID theft, fail to prevent from the crime.

Obama, the president of the United States, is thinking it is necessary more than Password. The news about this policy says “One of the problems in this issue is that people make the password complicating enough.” Additionally, “some 11.7 million Americans have been victimized in the last two years.”

The internet is becoming closer to our lives, and people try to save their information in their computer and in their account. Personally, it is not enough to save our information with just Password from the crime. Like Obama said, we need double or more protection instead of Password.

#6- which one are you going to choose?

By developing the internet technology, we can do many things on the internet, such as shopping, communicating with friends, or searching for what you want. Definitely, it makes our lives convenient and easy. On the other hand, our privacy stuffs are easily exposed and attacked by many application and software that we are using on the computer.

Here is a confusing question whether privacy or convenient. A year ago, Facebook started to do News Feed service which is posting the news if the person has registered as friend. Some people believed that it is violating privacy because they do not want to be posted some news or pictures to their friends, but it is automatically announced. On the other hand, we cannot deny that it is obviously a convenient service because we can easily hear our friend’s news unless visiting the each friend's Facebook homepage.

On the internet, we always wish to be quicker, easier, and more conveniently. As much as we want to be quicker, easier, and more conveniently, the service or software also needs to collect our personal information. As a result, we have to put in our privacy more on internet, and the danger of violating privacy is going to be higher. Consequently, we have to realize that we cannot have only the benefit side. So, now, we have to make a decision for this.
What is your choice in this situation whether to protect privacy or to be convenient?

Personal Rhetorical Thinking

To do my blog assignment for English class, I searched for two blogs. Few minute later, two blogs attract me; which are online safety about Facebook by Jemima Kiss and “For Better Online Pravacy”… Again? By Jose Niro Romano Nillasca. The common thing on both blog is the topic that makes people interested in.

                Similarly, those two blogs explain how serious the internet damage recently. The one of them by Jemima handle the issue about panic button on Facebook website. When the user click the any pop-up  or any ad from unknown, the computer is in trouble, and it can be exposed personal information in the computer. However, the company is trying to fix this, but it is not easy. That’s why many teenagers who are using Facebook are exposed on this risk. In this blog, the picture is appropriate to represent the situation. Also, the author makes a section; therefore, each one explains about the each topic clearly.

                The other blog is telling that Facebook and Microsoft are doing for safe privacy, but it is not enough to prevent completely. The author explains the customer protection is weak, so this issue will not be end. This blog’s explanation is great, and the picture on the top of this blog is also good. However, I suggest to add any statistic or experience to support this article.

My Privacy Is Safe?

     Today, I search for my blog assignment which topic is online safety. Most webpage was about the way to keep online safety, but one topic was sparkling that was “Internet Use Raises Privacy Concerns.”

      It is from VOAnews about internet safety. The news explains that the internet privacy concern is increasing more. The criminal way is made variously, and the internet company cannot handle all criminal ways. Also, the academic researcher said that it is so easy to expose personal information on internet. They did experiment to find personal stuff, but it was easily found by a researcher.

      In this article, there is no specific point, such as picture, video, or statistic data. However, after I read this, I realize how serious the internet privacy issue. Additionally, we already register our name and picture on many websites, like Facebook, Google, etc; however, we did not know exactly where our information is. Many policies and safety software cannot fully protect from exposing the significant information. To prevent this dangerous, I personally suggest checking all websites that usually went and make a list for the websites that my information saved.

Why not in North Korea?

“’From the first day we took the side of people’s revolution and we are ready to stand up to any attacking force’ from Abdullah El Hassi Air force colonel.”

Today, in the Middle East area, people, who are in Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, and, Tunisia, protest against the Government. They criticize the dictatorship and demand their rights and freedom like other democratic country. This movement is affecting oil price higher; additionally, it impacts to North Korea that has been passed on power to his descendants though third generation.

           Do you know where the poorest country is; in addition, where the longest term of dictatorship country is? North Korea insists its social structure as communism; however, after the WW2, the family of Jung-il Kim has been governed though third generation. In this country, there is no election, no freedom, and recently even no food. People in the nation are starving to death; in the other hand, the president is spending about a million dollar for his health per a year. Lately, from South Korea, many organization included the Government are trying to let people know with the advertisement about the democratic revolution. The Middle East’s protest is conveying to some people in North Korea although the Government restrict strongly. As a result, there are several movements against the government, but it was oppressed by the military. Now, “North Korea threatens to attack South Korea US” about “propaganda leaflets toward the communist country” because Jung-il Kim already knew it is going to be critically threatened for them to maintain his power.

             I believe that it is proper time for recovering its freedom and rights for North Korean people. There is no solution for their lives. North Korean people have to choose between starving to dead and fighting against the Government like other countries. Historically, we have many examples that dictatorship is never able to maintain its power forever. I suggest that we have to announce them about this knowledge and stimulate to recover the basic human being as their destinies.

Education Problem

                 When I came to America, my heart was aflutter for the great education. For example, I desire to learn English and my major from excellent professor and to study in wonderful library and school. The reason why I thought about them is there are many famous universities in the United States; in the mean time, America is the best economic country in the world. However, in one day, I took a class that was about American education. It is one of the most serious problems in this nation; in addition, many Presidents up to now have been trying to fix this.

                  According to Businessweek, “Some 85% of adult Americans have at least a high school degree today, up from just 25% in 1940. Similarly, 28% have a college degree, a fivefold gain over this period.” He also refers that “workforce with high school and college degrees may not only fail to keep rising over the next 15 years but could actually decline slightly, warns a report released on Nov. 9 by the National Center for Public Policy & Higher Education, a nonprofit group based in San Jose, Calif.” It was shocked and wired for me. The reason why I thought that is most people usually get a bachelor degree in my country, South Korea. Additionally, we recently do not consider that a Master degree is a high degree. Now, I am personally able to find the reason from getting a job easily. Although people in the United States do not graduate a university, they can get a job. This fact means that there is not high competition for maintaining their lives.

Finally, his conclusion on this article is “the U.S. must push harder to get better teachers into poorer schools.” However, I do not agree this opinion. I personally insist that people are going to study when they feel that it is necessary. That means that the U.S government makes people feel to need earning degree for their bright future. At the same time, the government should strongly support the person who does not have enough money for education, such as student loan or scholar ship.

Which fact is more important?

          Today, I read an article from The New York Times about U.S force move to Libya. According to the news, “Mr. Gates said he had ordered an amphibious assault ship, the Kearsarge, and an amphibious transport dock ship, the Ponce, to the Mediterranean.” In addition, from this, “…there was no authorization for military force in a United Nations Security Council resolution…” In this phrase, he obviously considers doing military operation without UN support.

             I heard that the president in Libya oppresses the protesters with military power; as a result, many people died and injured from the action. A human’s life is the most important in the world, and we have to save their lives. However, The United States is still spending a lot of money for wars. For example, it was not completely finished with Iraq and Afghanistan yet. There are about 150,000 soldiers in the area. To maintain this force, America has to use much money for the supplement. Furthermore, there is a thrill with South Korea against North Korea.

             Eventually, the purpose to find biological weapon was not achieved. People criticize it was failed. Where is the money from? All money is from tax in America. The United States Government has increased the deficit from the war. Of course, it is important to save people in Libya; additionally, as the most powerful country, it is important to preserve peace. However, in my opinion, the government has to ask its citizens about this war before keep going on.

Need Internet Education

Today, internet has come closer to our lives with many beneficial ways, such as communicating with friends, managing accounts, getting information, and even shopping; additionally, there are variously easy way of using internet, for example computer, smart phone, and tablet PC. However, at the mean time, the illegality of internet has also increased with various ways.

The reason why I choose the topic, “Identity, Privacy, and Safety,” is to inform that people do not recognize how serious the on-line theft is. A few days ago, I watched a program, which was to notify the problem with an example. There is a child who was a student in elementary school. However, shockingly, his hobby was not playing game or chatting with friends with computer; which was to make zombie PC, that is to control other computers, also is possible to thieve, such as password, bank account, or personal information. Although a director was shooting his doing, he did not realize that he was doing crime. There is another example that we knows well. Wikileaks stole and revealed the national-top-secret information; therefore, the U.S government was made in trouble.

Except the events above, there are many other cases which were threatened someone's property on internet. Because it is easy to hide behide of monitor, people just do whatever they wants, even if it is a crime. By developing technology  the usage of internet has been increasing constantly. Now, in my opinion, we need to work better to educate online safety; furthermore, to notice how serious and risky the illegality is on internet.
